MCM Results, can’t believe I forgot to post

The team got an email from our adviser MAJ Boucher (who is also my differential equations teacher) last week about the MCM results:

Team:

The MCM results are now posted on the COMAP website, http://www.comap.com/undergraduate/contests/mcm/contests/2009/results/#a.  Congratulations your team (#5683) received Meritorious Honors.  This is a great complement since only the top 18% of the 1675 teams that participated received such honors.  The Mathematics Department will have an Award Ceremony in the near future… I’ll let you know when it is.  Again, very well done… this speaks of your abilities and dedication!

Sweet huh?

MCM – Completed

As promised, I’m attaching the PDF of our report for this year’s Mathematical Contest in Modeling.  I’m really proud of our group.  We made really excellent progress through the whole 96 hours and our final product is something I am really proud.  Give it a look.

Granted probably none of my readers will read the whole thing, but hey, I enjoyed myself.

Update on the Weekend’s Events

Since Thursday night, I’ve been (almost exclusively) engaged in the Mathematical Contest in Modeling.  Basically, it’s a competition wherein each team of three people is given 96-hours to develop a solution to a pretty broad question.

The problem we are doing is about the energy consumption of landlines and cell phones, with a bit of energy waste analysis.  It’s actually pretty interesting, and I’m glad that we have such a great problem.  After a while though, it gets mind numbing.

Luckily, we have basically completed the now 30-page report of our solution/model and have over 20 hours remaining to perfect it.  We are going to halt operations for the night and come back to it fresh tomorrow.

I’ll probably post at least part of it, or a link to its entirety once the contest is over.  Wouldn’t want any of the other competitors to get hold of your precious analysis, haha.

Anyway, just wanted to give an update.
